    KTY Series linear ptc thermistor Introduction:

    KTY series thermistors are advanced temperature controlling and temperature compensation devices renowned for their accuracy and reliability across various industrial and consumer applications. Developed by Siemens, these KTY series Linear PTC thermistors such as KTY81, KTY82, KTY83, KTY84 are used in electronic engineering for temperature measurement and compensation circuits.

    Linear positive temperature coefficient thermistor is made of PTC material and physical process. It has superior stability, compound linearity, millions of repetitions with unchanged characteristic curve. The resistance value increases with the increase of temperature, and the change is linear, and the linearity is good.

    Difference between KTY81, KTY82, KTY83, KTY84:

    After 10000 hours of permanent operation at the maximum operating temperature with nominal operating current.

    The characteristics of the Linear PTC thermistors are based on the properties of the silicon chemical element silicon, in this case

    The performance of the temperature sensor is as stable as this chemical element. This means that the temperature drift over the life of the product is negligible. In recent tests, this was validated when the sensor worked at maximum operating temperature of 10,000 hours (equal to 1.14 years), a typical 0.2 K drift is shown, with a maximum drift of 0.4 K to 0.8 K.

    Long term stability

    Supposing that the sensor is used at half of the specified maximum temperature typically , our Silicon sensor will have the low drift described in Table 1 for at least 450,000 hours (equal to 51 years). This calculation is based on
    Arrhenius equation (activation energy = 0.7 eV).

    Product Overview and Specifications

    Linear PTC thermistors increase resistance with temperature in a linear manner, surpassing PTC polymer ceramic thermistors by eliminating the need for linear compensation, thus simplifying circuit design.

    Unlike general KTY thermistors that require linear compensation due to nonlinear resistance-temperature changes, this KTY product maintains a linear resistance-temperature relationship from -40°C to 300°C, simplifying circuit design. Common PTC thermistors have narrow linear regions and are typically used for overcurrent and overload protection rather than temperature detection and compensation. This KTY product, however, enhances applications in these areas.

    Thermistors with the same temperature coefficient can be connected in series or parallel without altering their temperature-resistance characteristics. For instance, a 1K 2000PPM thermistor can be connected in series to form a 2K 2000PPM or in parallel to form a 500Ω 2000PPM. This flexibility facilitates convenient circuit experiments, optimal data acquisition, and mass production.

    The resistance value of linear PTC thermistor increases with the temperature increasing and changes in a straight line.These KTY81-KTY84 products can maintain the linear change of resistance in the temperature region of -40℃ -250℃.
