Introduction to PTC Device for Meter Instrument Overvoltage Protection
MZ31 series of PTC Device is million- time safety Thermistor PTC of automatic circuit protection,recoverability, using repeatedly, and no trigger,noise or protective PTC Resistors that could protect and restore from abnormal temperature and current automatically,which called "auto restore fuse" and "ten-thousand-time fuse".
Recoverability, using repeatedly, and no trigger, noise or sparks. It can replace traditional fuse and widely applied in overvoltage protection and overload protection of motor, transformer, electronic circuit. PTC Device decreases its residual current through sharp resistance increasing, restraining consumption of the whole line,and the Thermistor PTC can restore its protective function after the trouble was removed.But traditional fuse could not restore after fusing in the circuit.

Key Features of PTC Device in Meter Instruments
Working Principle
Normal Operation
When the circuit operates normally, the current passing through the PTC Device is below the rated current, keeping the thermistor in a low resistance state. This ensures that the protected circuit, such as the primary and secondary loops of a voltage transformer, functions without interruption. If a fault occurs and the current exceeds the rated level, the Thermistor PTC quickly heats up, significantly increasing its resistance. This effectively "turns off" the circuit to prevent damage. Once the issue is resolved, the PTC Resistors automatically return to its low resistance state, allowing the circuit to resume normal operation.
Fault Response and Automatic Recovery
In case of some trouble in the circuit and the current is bigger than the rated current,the PTC Device will become hot quicklyand present high resistance value, which sets the circuit relatively “off” to protect the circuit from damage.After the trouble is removed,Thermistor PTC will automatically restore its low resistance state and the circuit will resume normal operation.
As indicated in Fig as below,when circuit is in the normal state, the current through PTC Resistors is lower than the rated current and PTC Device is in the normal state with small resistance value,which will not affect the normal operation of the protected circuit such as primary and secondary loops of the voltage transformer.

When selecting PTC Resistors for overvoltage protection and overload protection, consider the following factors:
- Maximum Operating Current: Ensure it matches the PTC Device non-trip current.
- Maximum Operating Voltage: Must meet or exceed the circuit's requirements.
- Rated Zero Power Resistance: Critical for ensuring proper protection.
